The Sound of Serfdom

I thought a little humor might be in order, so here you have it: The 2020 DNC platform, set to music, by Simon and Garfunkel…

As I promised last time (when I did American Pie), If I get enough shares, I’ll sing this on YouTube. If I get a million page views, I’ll sing both songs on YouTube, so if you want to hear my singing voice, you know what to do…

Hello serfdom, my old friend.
I’ll be your property again.
Because my freedom slowly creeping
Into a state whose power’s seeping
Over lives that responsibility never finds
And no one minds,
To hear the Sound of Serfdom.

In dreams of food I walk alone,
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
Beneath the halo of a gantry,
I walk into an empty pantry,
When my eyes were stabbed by the gestapo because of a sight,
That split the night,
And touched the Sound of Serfdom.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people -maybe more.
People chewing without eating.
People talking with minds fleeting,
People writing recipes that taste buds will never share,
And no one dare,
Disturb the Sound of Serfdom.

“Fool’s” said I, “You do not know
Government, a cancer, grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you.
Take my arms that I might reach you,”
But my words like food-less morsels fell,
And echoed,
In the wells of Serfdom.

And the people bowed and prayed,
To the government they’d made,
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming,
And the sign said “The words of The Ruler
Are written on the subway walls,
And tenement halls.”
And whispered,
In the Sounds of Serfdom.
